Minor Project: Initial Sketches of Anxiety Bird

Initial Thumbnails

Here are my first thumbnails for my Anxiety bird. The first few thumbnails I followed 100% the anatomy but realised it was crushing my ability to design. from 3 onwards I decided to keep the shape in mind but start exaggerating features to see what that would give me. I used research of birds of prey to help me draw however towards later thumbnails I noticed the anatomy of some of them look a little off.

My Favourite Thumbnails are 3, 5 and 8.

Once I've begun figuring out more about the larger Anxiety bird this will then make it easier to design the baby version.

I don't have a lot of experience drawing birds so I think it will be helpful to look at more bird references and practice sketching them to help improve my overall anatomy and design process.

Adaptation B: Improved Beetle sketches

Unfortunately I've been pretty ill so I haven't been able to do this as quickly as I had hoped. With some help with Alan I've moved along pretty quickly.

Each beetle is made up of a similar shape, but slightly changed.

In terms of Paper, Plastic and Glass I think 1 is working best, whereas Metal should have some variation of 3 or 4.

I'm going to work on cleaner versions of these and improve them overall.

Adaptation B: Beetle sketches

Paper Beetle
I see Paper as an older more reliable character and therefore I think 1,3 and 4 are closest to what I imagine. 2 could be used for Plastic instead.

Glass Beetle
I see glass as a confident, beautiful and sharp beetle. I think working close to 1 and 4 could help me achieve this.

Metal Beetle
I want the metal beetle to appear strong. I quite like number 1 and 4.

Plastic beetle

I see plastic as a younger beetle, based somewhat around childrens toys and how that looks. I like 1, 2 and 3.

Character: Character sketches

Here are some of the sketches produced for my characters. I will refine and work with these in photoshop.

The "Codfather"
In terms of these sketches I feel that 3 or 5 captures best what I was trying to portray in terms of a mafia boss.

 Fox Protagonist
I'm struggling in terms of interesting clothes with my protagonists but this is something I will look more into while refining characters. I'm liking the shape of 1 but I feel he should be a little more muscular like 4.

Raccoon Protagonist
I think my closest representation of my character here is 4. I think some of the shape could be improved but I like her hood and jacket.

I also need to make sure all these characters look like these fit in the same world, I think some changes to the Fox protagonist would help him look more coherent with my Raccoon.
